A bench-clearing ‘brawl’ occurred during the celebrity softball game at Kauffman Stadium

Bench-clearing brawls occur — they’re part of the game.

It’s a different scenario when a bench-clearing brawl happens in a celebrity slow pitch softball game. But that’s what happened on Friday at Kauffman Stadium.

Actor/comedian Rob Riggle and friends hosted a celebrity game in Kansas City on Friday as part of a weekend of events where members of the entertainment industry have gathered for a bowling tournament, a party/auction, and this softball game for charity.

The “Big Slick” event was all in good fun, until some drama occurred between Will Forte and Jake Tapper, who started a bit of a fight on third base. Singer David Cook ran over to assist — and that’s when this “brawl” arose and benches cleared.

While both teams ran out to assist, Forte, of The Last Man on Earth, took advantage of the craziness and crossed home plate to score for the blue team.

Don’t worry — no famous people were hurt in the making of this celebrity softball game.

The event only lasted four innings, but fans could witness a Travis Kelce (tight end for the Kansas City Chiefs) home run, shenanigans from long-time entertainers Johnny Knoxville and Weird Al Yankovic, as well as actor and Royals super fan Paul Rudd’s impressive defensive skills.

“I always loved this day and also tomorrow morning,” Riggle told MLB.com’s Wilson Alexander, “because I think we’re going to come back.”

Proceeds for the Big Slick Celebrity Weekend benefit the Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City.
