The inaugural Celebrity Softball Game, which will be played Friday, July 21, as part of the Cape Cod Baseball League and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Cape Cod’s All-Star Weekend, has added to the roster of stars.
Two Red Sox legends have been added: southpaw Bill Lee (“The Spaceman”) and 1967s Impossible Dream Team hurler Jose Santiago. They join former Red Sox catcher and Cape League Hyannis team alum Jason Varitek, Olympic ice skating medalist Nancy Kerrigan, and former New England Patriots quarterback Scott Zolak.
Advance ticket sales for the July 21-22 All-Star Weekend are available at www.allstarcapecod.org until 5 PM Thursday, July 20. Fans can save $5 per ticket by purchasing early online. A limited amount of individual game tickets may be purchased on game day at the gate. Adult tickets will increase to $30 and children’s (ages 4-12) tickets will increase to $15. Children age 3 and under will be admitted free. Tickets are nonrefundable. The event takes place rain or shine.
The weekend starts with the Celebrity All-Star Softball Game Friday, July 21, at 6 PM at McKeon Park in Hyannis. Prior to the game a Pre-Game Kids Clinic, where children age 12 and under can participate in a one-hour clinic to learn the skills of baseball from the professionals and participate in kid-friendly contests, takes place at 4 PM. The Celebrity Softball Pre-Game Kids Clinic costs $25; all children who participate will receive an All-Star Weekend T-shirt and automatic admission into the Celebrity Softball Game.
After the softball game an after party will take place at 8 PM at the Cape Cod Maritime Museum, 135 South Street, Hyannis. Attendees will get to meet some of the celebrities from the game. Tickets for the after party are $50.
The festivities continue the next day as the best of the Cape League’s East and West divisions face off in the Cape Cod Baseball League All-Star Game at Spillane Field, Wareham. Gates open at 2 PM, with the home run hitting contest and autograph sessions with Cape League players prior to the game. The All-Star Game gets underway at 5 PM.
Other celebrities announced for the softball game include HGTV and DIY network personality Chris Lambton (also of “The Bachelorette” fame) and wife Peyton; 98.5 Sports Hub radio personality Matt McCarthy, “Real World New Orleans” cast member Ashlee Feldman, state Representative Tim Whelan, former pro hockey player Dean Melanson, Hot 96.9 radio personality Ramiro, Barnstable Police Chief Paul McDonald, NBC Boston/NECN traffic reporter Natasha Verma, author and Boston Marathon bombing survivor Roseann Sdoia, and former WBZ-TV personality Scott Wahle. Participants are subject to change.
Sports team mascots are also joining the fun. Boston Red Sox mascots Wally the Green Monster and Tessie, Boston Bruins Mascot Blades, and the Hyannis Harbor Hawks’ own Ozzie will be in attendance.
All-Star Weekend is a fundraiser for the Cape Cod Baseball League and Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital Cape Cod. Proceeds from the events will go to support the care and research programs at Spaulding Cape Cod, and the operations of the Cape Cod Baseball League.
