Her character on Coronation Street may not be having the best run of luck when it comes to family life.
But actress Katie McGlynn seemed to be practically bursting with joy on Wednesday night as she revealed she is pregnant with her gay best friend’s baby.
After the news spread over the internet, the 22-year-old soap star was forced to reveal the embarrassing truth behind that “happy and proud” tweet – she was hacked by her best mate.
After receiving thousands of congratulation messages this morning, Katie took to Twitter to clear the baby rumours up once and for all, writing: “So when Lee Bennett steals your phone & the whole of the UK think your pregs.”
Katie, who was recently linked to Strictly Come Dancing hunk Giovanni Pernice, shocked fans as she broke the “news” just before midnight.
“So excited to share the news that me and @_LeeBennett are having a babrooon togeth #Gayby [sic],” she tweeted to her 66,000 followers.
She followed it up with another message, in which she praised Lee and their “21st Century baba”, writing: “Couldn’t think of a better pers to bring a life into this world with other than my GBF @_LeeBennett 21st Century baba [sic].”

The joke was deepened when the actress then took to her Instagram account, making sure the announcement was picked up by all of her family, friends and followers, and posted a picture of a cartoon stork delivering a baby.
In an accompanying caption she sounded delighted and joyful, writing: “So happy & proud to announce that me and my GBF @_leebennett have decided to have a baby together couldn’t think of a better person to bring a baby into the world with than my best friend, such a lucky gal!
And as her 101,000 followers on the site picked up on the news, they couldn’t wait to congratulate the actress and her blogger pal.
“So happy for you,” wrote one, while another gushed: “Congratulations!!! Best of luck with the baby and can’t wait to see the story play out on the street! Maybe a story with Chesney lol.”
Lee himself announced the news by retweeting one of Katie’s post, though he shed some light on the their news by revealing they’d been keeping the pregnancy plan a secret, tweeting:
“It’s been so hard keeping this a secret but I’m extremely happy to finally let you all know.”
Others wrote: “Have you been hacked?”
Katie, originally from Rochdale, and Lee appear to be the best of friends and nigh-on inseparable, as both of their Instagram profiles are littered with smiling snaps of the duo together.
