fantasy premier league GW10 tips – analysing the teams of 10 top FPL managers

Here’s our fantasy premier league GW10 tips article where we analyse the teams of 10 top FPL managers. These 10 managers have not finished outside the overall rank of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons. Considering how variable the last 3 years have been this is remarkable consistency and shows an ability to adapt strategy in different seasons. It also gives you a view other than my own on strategy and player selection.

FANTASY PREMIER LEAGUE GW10 TIPS – ANALYSING THE TEAMS OF 10 TOP FPL MANAGERS

THE 10 MANAGERS STATS

This season we welcome back 4 of last seasons managers who were the subject of our article. We add to that a new 6 managers. Stats of these managers are unbelievable and every bit as impressive as last season

1. The overall average finishing overall rank of the top 10 managers in the last 3 seasons is 2,963

2. The top 10 FPL managers have not been out of the top 10k in the last 3 seasons (ie 30 times playing)

3. All 10 have finished in the top 1,000 in the last 3 seasons

GAMEWEEK REVIEW

A reasonably good week for the top 10 FPL managers. 7/10 had green arrows.

The average score of the managers in GW9 was 59 compared to the game average of 50. That’s 9 points and 18% above the game average score. High score of the 10 was 73. The low score was 45. A high spread of 28 for a fairly average scoring gameweek.

The average overall rank of the top 10 FPL managers saw an improvement to 555k compared to 681k in the last gameweek. An average rank improvement of 126k. The best rank is 130k and the lowest 931k. If you calculated the median rank then that surprisingly worsened to 617k compared to 597 last gameweek. A worsening of rank of 20k. All 10 managers have overall ranks better than 1 million. Only 4 better than 500k.

The average points are 499.

The average value improved from £101.6m to £101.8m

If you’re interested my score was ok at 62 with no point hits and resulted in a 50k green arrow from 145k overall rank to 95k . I had a higher score than 7 of the managers. I’m ahead in OR terms at the moment of all 10 of the managers. My team value is up £0.2m on the last gameweek to £101.8m. My total points is 532. You can see my early thoughts on the FFGeek team article for GW10 which I’ll be doing next.

FOCUS ON 1 MANAGERS TEAM

As we said last week, the celebrity manager we followed last season finished around the 20k mark so he’s not in the group this season. This season were going to focus on the manager each week who had the highest finish last season with an amazing overall rank of 15 believe it or not.

This week he bounced back after a bad run.  His score this week was 67 and he was the 2nd highest scorer of the 10 and his rank is 386k. An improvement of rank of 285k from last weeks OR of 671k. His points total is 506. He’s the 4th ranked of the 10 FPL managers

THE HIGHEST SCORER

This was until last week the last placed of the 10 managers.  His score of 67 took him to 871k from 1.554 million OR and 485 points. That’s a rank improvement of 683k.  This shows you how 1 score can improve your rank significantly at this stage of the season.  He’s the 9th ranked manager of the 10.

THE LOWEST SCORER

His score of 45 took him to 651k OR and 493 points. A worsening of rank of 203k.  He’s the 7th ranked of the 10 managers

I’ve often said that differences in scores in a gameweek come down to 1 of more of the following 3 things normally:

Defence – Although the top scorer had 1 more defender the difference of 14 was significant

Captain – 11 points

A few attackers –  There were only 2 players the same in attack but the combined difference was only 3 points in favour of the top scoring team.  So this section didn’t apply in this case
