Hilarious texts reveal how incoming Uber CEO’s daughter found out about her dad’s new gig

Word to the wise: If you’re taking over as chief executive of one of the most talked-about companies in the world, be sure to tell those closest to you before the media blows up your spot.

Former Expedia CEO Dara Khosrowshahi learned that lesson the hard way when his daughter, Chloe Khosrowshahi, received the news via a New York Times push notification texted to her by a friend.

Khosrowshahi and the company he is departing maintained tight control of the news as it unfolded this week. The story broke last Sunday, with reports surfacing that Khosrowshahi was Uber’s pick to replace Travis Kalanick. By Wednesday, Expedia was ready to announce its CFO Mark Okerstrom would take Khosrowshahi’s place. On Friday, Expedia named Okerstrom’s replacement, decisively concluding a whirlwind week for the company.

The smooth transition makes Khosrowshahi’s oversight with his daughter all the more amusing. Khosrowshahi, for his part, seems to be taking his new role — and the added media attention that comes with it — with a sense of humor.
