Moeen Ali Photoshopped Into The ‘Moeena Lisa’ by England Cricket Fans! Viral Picture Receives Major Backlash

England cricket fans are known for their cheeky ideas when it comes to supporting their side. But it seems like they crossed limits in order to be too humorous for their own good. England cricketer Moeen Ali was photoshopped into Leonardo da Vinci’s iconic portrait Mona Lisa in a poster, which was put up on display during their Third Test Match against South Africa at the Oval Stadium. The viral picture named as ‘The Moeena Lisa’ was shared by England Cricket’s Official Facebook page. Moeen Ali fans seemed not too impressed by the idea and slammed the ones for disrespecting the player. Nevertheless, the picture which has been doing rounds for a long time was tweeted by cricketer earlier in the year. He had taken the joke in good spirit and laughed it off.

A poster of left-handed batsman and spinner, Moeen Ali was hung by a group of English cricket fans during their match against Protease team. The face of the 30-year-old player was morphed in the timeless art, Mona Lisa with the caption ‘The Moeena Lisa’. England Cricket’s FB page also shared the viral picture with the caption, “Behold…”The Moeena Lisa!” But the joke backfired with some cricket lovers finding it offensive.

There were many comments about how England Cricket disrespected the player because of his religion while many posted SHAME comment. A user named Khyali Gull wrote, “WTF. This is not the way to troll him. He made your country proud by his ferocious performances. Shame.” Another posted, “no…that’s not good ,,,England Cricket supporters >_< !! u can’t do that to ur national heroes !! shame”

For many users, the idea of sharing the ‘disrespectful’ image by official England Cricket page seemed outrageous. A guy wrote, “I find this insulting and can’t quite believe that England Cricket posted it. 🙁 Totally disrespectful I hope Moeen Ali complains about it.” But it looks like the cricketer has no issues taking a punny joke about him.

Moeen had shared the edited picture on Twitter in April 2017, writing, “This made me laugh”. Well, his fans should not lose their sleep over a joke and take it to heart. One can understand the sentiment of these fans who cheer up for their favourite star, but a little humour won’t hurt anyone. At least that’s what Moeen Ali’s chilled out reaction reflected in the entire ‘controversial’ picture episode.

England is currently facing South Africa in the third Test, played from July 27 to 31. They are leading by 252 runs with nine wickets in hand on Day 3. The Test match marks the Oval’s 100th Test celebrations, which is constantly hampered due to rains. In the four match series, England and South Africa are levelled at 1-1, with the first match won by the former side by 211 runs at the Lord’s while the next game was won by visiting team by 311 runs at the Trent Bridge.
