Mother’s savage response to son taking her to vegan restaurant goes viral

A mum’s scathing review of a vegan restaurant has gone viral after her son shared it online.

There are few situations as daunting to a meat-eating parent than a child’s decision to turn veggie, especially if the parent in question’s idea of said food consists of nut roasts and faux meats.

Enter Dan Nicholson’s mum, who recently took to social media to share her disdain after her son took her for a meal at a much-loved vegan restaurant in Liverpool.

To celebrate his A-level results, Nicholson accompanied his mum to The Egg Café – a vegetarian and vegan restaurant with thousands of fans on Facebook and regular glowing reviews.

However, Nicholson’s mum was clearly not impressed – taking to Facebook to shame her son’s meat-free lifestyle.

“Why can’t I have a normal teenage son who enjoys burgers, pizza, and, God forbid, chicken kebab? Hey ho, vegetarian restaurant and spicey lentils it is. Oh yum. Going to hug a tree next,” she wrote.

In response, Nicholson tweeted an image of the post which has since received more than 2,000 retweets and 15,000 likes.

It also incited a volley of comments from vegan Twitter users who have experienced the same response from their carnivorous families. “Okay my family would never post it online but they complained exactly like that when I took them to the veggie grill,” one person wrote.

Another added, “This is actually my mum.” It turns out though, that Nicholson’s mum rant was only meant as a bit of lighthearted fun and that she actually really enjoyed the food.

“My mum does like to post stuff like that on Facebook, she does rate herself as a bit of a joker and this post was hardly an exception,” Nicolson told Munchies. ”I personally didn’t expect the huge response I’ve got, which mostly seems to be either ‘Serves you right for eating meat’ from people that can’t understand it’s a joke, or (well deserved) praise for The Egg Cafe.“
