Photo of soaked Florida sergeant goes viral after he dives into river to save woman

A Jacksonville sergeant dove into the St. Johns River on Tuesday to save a woman who was floating in the water.

Sgt. Billy Irvin responded after a passerby called at 12:47 p.m. to report a possible sighting of a person in the water, the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office reported.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether the woman was dead or alive.

As Irvin reached the woman and swam her to a safer area, three nearby construction workers helped by pulling her onto a boat.
