Slumping Yankees lose another bat, send Matt Holliday to DL with viral infection

Is it time to panic in New York?

A day after sending Starlin Castro (hamstring) to the disabled list, the Yankees placed designated hitter Matt Holliday on the 10-day disabled list Wednesday with a viral infection.

New York recalled infielder Miguel Andujar from Triple-A to take Holliday’s roster space. Chris Carter, who was recently designated for assignment, has agreed to return to the minors.

Holliday, 37, is hitting a cool .262 with 15 home runs and 47 RBIs this season, but he has just one multi-hit game since June 10.

Despite losing 11 of their last 14 games, the Yankees are still just one game behind the Red Sox in the AL East.
