University of Alabama student wears Christmas tree costume around campus after her tweet goes viral

Tempted to assume you’ll never have a tweet go viral? Post a picture of yourself dressed as a Christmas tree just weeks before Christmas, and it might.

Kelsey Hall, a student at the University of Alabama, learned the hard way not to underestimate the power of the Internet when she tweeted a photo of herself on Saturday with the caption, “1,000 retweets and I’ll wear this to all my classes for the rest of the semester.”

Perhaps rather expectedly, the tweet took off.

By Wednesday morning, it had nearly 23,000 retweets and more than 36,000 favorites.

Hall held up her end of the bargain. On Monday, her friend posted a video of her walking on campus in her holiday-spirited Christmas tree costume.

Tuesday didn’t go as smoothly. Rainy weather meant the costume got wet, and Hall was less than thrilled.

By Tuesday night, the University of Alabama mascot, Big Al, had found her and snapped a photo with her.

So far, Hall appears to be sticking to her promise.

But she’s not without regret.

“‘What’s your biggest regret in life?’” she tweeted Sunday before the costume-wearing began. “This.”
