Hillary Clinton Legit Tried to Get Out of Going to Trump’s Inauguration

Hillary Clinton is quite funnier than we had imagined.

Since the 2016 election, she has given several interviews about her views of Donald Trump’s administration and released a book, What Happened, that chronicles exactly what its title implies.

Now, she’s making us LOL in a new interview for The Graham Norton Show in which she reveals exactly how she felt about having to attend Trump’s inauguration ceremony in January. “I really tried to get out of going,” she candidly says, explaining that it’s tradition for former presidents and First Ladies to attend the ceremony each year, regardless of political party.

“We thought, ‘OK, maybe others aren’t going.’ So we called the Bushes, and the elder Bushes were in the hospital, which I think was legitimate. And so then we called the younger Bushes and they said, ‘Yeah, we’re going.’ We called the Carters and they said, ‘Yeah, we’re going.’ Bill and I looked at each other and said, ‘We gotta go,'” she says.

“I try to describe in the book what that felt like because I didn’t know what to expect. What I wanted to have happened was despite the kind of campaign he ran I wanted him to rise to the occasion of being our president and being our president for everybody, not just people who supported him,” she said. “That didn’t happen.”

“We were listening to this really dark, divisive speak that I describe as a cry from the white nationalist gut. I was so disappointed, really, so sad that it wasn’t an outreach, it was a narrowing and a hammering of what he had said before,” Clinton says.
