Election Day 2016 started out full of hope and promise for many Americans but quickly dissolved into an ongoing nightmare — an emotional roller coaster of a year that some voters are depicting on Twitter with before-and-after pictures.
In the political year since last Election Day, America has been in a constant whirlwind of ridiculous and embarrassing news that includes everything from “Apprentice”-style firings at the White House to a garbage dump full of Russian meddling accusations, along with regular missteps by President Trump (#NeverForget the G7 golf cart ride). Americans have understandably changed from who they were last year.
So, recalling their Election Day 2016 selves — young, fresh-faced voters full of promise and excitement — versus their haggard, weary and weathered Election Day 2017 selves, people are taking to Twitter to show how they’ve (hilariously) changed in a series of posts that feature photos they believe represent “Me on Election Day 2016” and “Me on Election Day 2017.”
Many of the before-and-after photos show actors and actresses, such as Sigourney Weaver, in cheerful images matched with post-apocalyptic scenes.
