There’s a long history of teens asking celebrities to prom, and, for the most part, stars respectfully decline. Over the weekend, however, one Twitter user decided to shake things up, offering retweets in return for the New Girl cast having dinner with her and her friends before prom — and now, she has the number of retweets to make it happen.
On Friday, Twitter user Dharma Boreman uploaded a series of screenshots showing a Twitter exchange between her and Lamorne Morris, who plays Winston on New Girl, captioned “100k IS A LONG SHOT BUT PLEASE HELP A GIRL OUT!!!!!!!!”
“Hellooo How many retweets would it take to get you, Jake Johnson, and Max Greenfield to come to dinner with my group before prom?” Dharma begins, referring to the actors who play Nick and Schmidt on New Girl. “I was going to say go to prom but I think that would be too dramatic. Game night was really good btw!!”
In the screenshots, the actor replies, “700k lol. Gracias gal.”
“I’ll pay for all three of your plane tickets for 100k haha,” Dharma writes, to which Lamorne replies, “Lololololol 100k retweets.”
Lamorne, who follows Dharma on Twitter, even liked her tweet.
Dharma has since gotten more than enough retweets to make her pre-prom dinner dream come true. As of Monday morning, she has reached almost 127,000 retweets and counting. The actors otherwise known as Winston, Nick, and Schmidt have yet to reply, but as a certain chicken nugget saga has proved, a deal made on Twitter might as well be signed, stamped, and notarized. We’ll update this story when they do, but in the meantime, Dharma can sit back and enjoy her newfound Internet fame.
