Troye Sivan took some time in between his multi-city tour in support of Bloom to whip up something special.
The singer chopped it up at the Bon Appétit test kitchen in a video released yesterday (Nov. 6) for the food magazine’s Back-to-Back Chef YouTube series, which has brought the likes of Alessia Cara, Natalie Portman, and Miz Cracker to the hot seat to make a full meal with only a little bit of help.
Sivan’s task is to whip up chicken under a brick — a roasted chicken flattened by an actual brick — with a “pesto verde” sauce. The catch? Sivan only has 20 minutes and verbal instructions from Carla Music, Bon Appétit’s food director, to complete the task.
Early on, the culinary maven asks Sivan, “You got a good ear?” Naturally, he responds in the affirmative. “Are you a great cook?” she follows up. Sivan, bashfully, responds “no.”
But Sivan holds his own in the Back-to-Back challenge, deftly de-boning a chicken and smashing parsley, an anchovy, and spices with a mortar and pestle. Even the pop prince is a bit impressed with himself by the end. “I’m a slightly better beginner,” he quips after the challenge is over.
