We’ve just welcomed another unusually named celebrity baby into the world, Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott picked the name Stormi for their newborn daughter.
We actually kinda dig the name, it’s cute and unique – although others on the internet aren’t so into it. But it did get us thinking about other out-there celeb baby names and just what exactly they mean.
Check out these celebs who hid life changing events from us…
Parents: Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott
DOB: 1 Feb 2018
What’s the meaning? No official word from Ky about the meaning of her firstborn’s name, but a fan theory seems pretty realistic to us.
There was a ton of speculation that the youngest Jenner would chose something with a butterfly vibe to it, maybe she did…
One fan on Twitter explained, “The saying goes if a butterfly flaps its wings in one part of the world it creates a ripple and a storm happens in another part of the world…. Travis Scott made song called Butterfly Effect 9 months ago, 9 months later guess who pops out? STORMI BITCHES I CRACKED THE CODE.”
Webster is easy, Travis’ real name is Jaques Webster.
Rumi & Sir Carter
Parents: Beyonce and Jay-Z
DOB: 13 June 2017
What’s the meaning? Jay-Z spilled the deets on these unusual name choices. Rumi was named in honour of the couple’s favourite poet, Jalal ad-Din Muhammad Rumi, a 13th-century Persian lyricist.
While Sir… well, we’ll let Jay explain in his own words: “Sir was like, man, come out the gate. He carries himself like that. He just came out, like, Sir.”
So there you have it.
Parents: Kim Kardashian and Kayne West
DOB: 15 June 2013/ 5 December 2015/ 15 January 2018
Seems like North got her name because other famous people liked the idea of it. Kim explained to GQ, “Pharrell [Williams] came over to us and said, ‘Oh, my God, are you guys really going to call your daughter North? That is the best name.’ I said, ‘No we’re not, that’s just a rumour.
“Then a little while later Anna Wintour came over and asked the same thing. She told us, ‘North is a genius name.’ Kanye and I looked at one another and just laughed. I guess at that point it sort of stuck,” the mum of three admitted.
The sweet reason behind Saint’s name is pretty simple, after having a tough pregnancy Kim considered him “a blessing,” or a saint. And his middle name is Robert – after Kim’s late father. “Kim has always considered her dad to be a saint. So Saint Robert is ideal,” a source told Hollywood Life.
For their third child it’s thought that Kimye decided to pay tribute to Kanye’s late mum, as Chicago is Kanye’s hometown. And we do know that Chicago will go by the nickname Chi, pronounced ‘Shy’.
Parents: Liam Payne and Cheryl
DOB: 22 March 2017
What’s the meaning? Liam revealed the meaning behind the choice of name during a chat with James Corden on The Late Late Show.
“When he was born, one of the midwives said it, he had this thing where if they don’t have a good cry they get fluid in the lungs which is quite serious. He was going like, ‘Grrr, grrr,’ when he was sleeping. So I had specialists running in and out of hospital all day, I had like 10 doctors come into the room.
“And in the end, the guy was just like, ‘I’m not being funny, there’s nothing wrong with him, he just likes to make a lot of noise.’ And that’s carried on ever since, so it just became Bear.”
Which is kinda cute, once you forget about the worrying medical issues bit.
Caben-Albi George Davis
Parents: Stephanie Davis and Jeremy McConnell
DOB: 13 January 2017
What’s the meaning? There’s isn’t really a meaningful, er, meaning behind Caben’s name… Stephanie just sort of invented herself.
“It actually came to me when I was in Tenerife with my mum. It’s not actually a name I’d heard before, but it popped into my mind and stuck there,” Steph told OK! magazine.
“I wanted to give him an unusual name, I also wanted him to be called Albi after my granddad.”
At least that part is sweet and sentimental.
Chester Raymond Beadle-McVey
Parents: Gary Beadle and Emma McVey
DOB: 15 January 2018
What’s the meaning? There’s not much significance behind the name the Chester, “it kind of just came to us and we loved it,” Gaz told OK! magazine.
But there is a special meaning to Chester’s middle name, “Raymond after my grandad of course.” And as we all know Gaz’s grandad is a very special person in his life. So adorable.
Dream Renee Kardashian
Parents: Rob Kardashian and Blac Chyna
DOB: 10 November 2016
What’s the meaning? It’s not hard to guess at the meaning behind this name. “Rob and Chyna had the name Dream for a long time. They named her Dream because they’ve always said she’s a dream come true,” a source revealed. So there you have it, simple really.
Daye Colmic Lake
Parents: Greg Lake and Jennifer Metcalfe
DOB: 20 June 2017
What’s the meaning? With the exception of his last name, it’s basically all made up. Greg revealed in an interview with OK! magazine that he and Jennifer just like the sound of Daye, “I wasn’t sure about it but one day I was driving home and I thought. ‘Daye Lake sounds good – I like this’.
The tot’s middle name is also unique, the couple took their dad’s names – Colin and Mick – and smooshed ‘em together to get Colmic. Which is pretty cute, tbf.
Parents: Ferne McCann and Arthur Collins
DOB: 2 November 2017
What’s the meaning? Inspiration can strike at the strangest times…. like when you’re having your make-up done.
“It came to me after my make-up artist recommended a cleanser to me by a brand called Sunday Riley. I thought it had a really nice ring to it, and the more I thought about it, the more I loved it,” the reality TV star has admitted to OK! magazine.
“I wanted something unique but not anything too weird,” she added.
Gunner Stone Pratt
Parents: Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt
What’s the meaning? Heidi and Spencer haven’t confirmed the meaning behind Gunner’s name. But the literal meaning of Gunner “is Scandinavian warrior boy,” which is pretty cool.
And there’s a theory that the Stone part is a play on the fact that baby Gunner was born among $27,000 worth of crystals thanks to a freebie given to healing crystal-obsessed Spencer.
